  1. This recipe will make 1 serving of tomato cha saar. Blanch tomatoes in boiling water for 10 minutes. Remove and place them in cold water, retaining the boiling water.
  2. Peel the cooled tomatoes and blend into a smooth puree. Set aside.
  3. Grind grated coconut, garlic, cumin seeds, and red chillies to a smooth paste. Keep aside.
  4. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  5. Add red chilli, asafoetida, and curry leaves. Let them crackle.
  6. Add the ground coconut mix, sauté for 2 minutes until the raw smell disappears.
  7. Add the tomato puree, simmer for 2 minutes.
  8. Pour in 3 cups of water leftover from blanching, season with salt, and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
  9. Switch off the flame and serve the Maharashtrian Tomato Saar with Steamed Rice
