- This recipe will make 1 serving of tomato cha saar. Blanch tomatoes in boiling water for 10 minutes. Remove and place them in cold water, retaining the boiling water.
- Peel the cooled tomatoes and blend into a smooth puree. Set aside.
- Grind grated coconut, garlic, cumin seeds, and red chillies to a smooth paste. Keep aside.
- Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
- Add red chilli, asafoetida, and curry leaves. Let them crackle.
- Add the ground coconut mix, sauté for 2 minutes until the raw smell disappears.
- Add the tomato puree, simmer for 2 minutes.
- Pour in 3 cups of water leftover from blanching, season with salt, and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
- Switch off the flame and serve the Maharashtrian Tomato Saar with Steamed Rice
