- Discover the simple yet delightful flavors of Patoli, a traditional dish featuring crumbled chana dal, seasoned with aromatic spices and herbs, offering a hearty and nutritious addition to your meal.
- This recipe will make 3 servings of Patoli.
- Drain the soaked chana dal and grind it coarsely without adding much water. Set aside.
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add mustard seeds, urad dal, and cumin seeds. Allow them to splutter.
- Add a pinch of hing and curry leaves to the pan, followed by the finely chopped onion and green chilli. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
- Stir in the ginger and garlic paste. Cook until the raw smell disappears.
- Mix in the coarsely ground chana dal to the pan. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and salt. Combine everything well.
- Cover the pan and cook on low heat, stirring occasionally to prevent the dal from sticking to the bottom. Cook until the dal is fully cooked and has a crumbled texture, about 10-15 minutes.
- Once the dal is cooked and has a dry, crumbled consistency, remove the pan from heat.
- Serve the Patoli hot as a side dish with rice or roti. It can also be enjoyed as a standalone healthy snack or meal, garnished with fresh coriander leaves if desired.
