- Pappu Charu, a comforting and flavorful Andhra-style lentil soup, infused with tamarind, vegetables, and aromatic spices for a delightful and wholesome meal.
- This recipe will make 2 serving of Pappu Charu
- Rinse the tur dal thoroughly until the water runs clear. Soak the dal in water for about 30 minutes, then drain.
- In a pressure cooker, add the soaked tur dal, enough water to cover the dal, turmeric powder, and a pinch of salt. Cook for about 3-4 whistles or until the dal is soft and cooked through.
- Once the pressure releases naturally, open the cooker and mash the dal lightly with the back of a spoon. Add more water to get a soupy consistency.
- Add tamarind juice, sliced onion, chopped tomato, slit green chilli, chilli powder, and salt to the dal. Bring the mixture to a boil, then simmer for about 10 minutes until the vegetables are soft.
- For the tempering, heat ghee in a small pan over medium heat. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, crushed garlic, broken red chilli, curry leaves, and a pinch of hing. Fry until the garlic turns golden and the seeds splutter.
- Pour the tempering over the dal mixture. Mix well to combine all the flavors.
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
- Serve the Pappu Charu hot as a soup or with rice for a comforting and savory meal.
