- Begin by grating the fresh coconut if you're using whole coconut. Alternatively, use unsweetened desiccated coconut.
- In a non-stick pan, add the sugar and water. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring continuously, until the sugar dissolves.
- Once the sugar has dissolved, add the grated coconut to the pan.
- Continue cooking the mixture over medium heat, stirring frequently. As the mixture thickens, you will notice it coming together into a cohesive mass. This should take about 10-15 minutes.
- Add ghee and cardamom powder to the mixture. Continue to cook and stir until the mixture starts leaving the sides of the pan and becomes slightly sticky.
- If you want to add chopped nuts for added texture and flavor, mix them into the coconut mixture.
- Turn off the heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly, making it easier to handle.
- While the mixture is still warm, shape it into small round ladoos (balls) using your hands. Apply a little ghee to your hands to prevent sticking.
- Garnish each Narkel Naru with a piece of chopped nut (if you choose to add nuts).
- Allow the Coconut Ladoos to cool completely before storing them in an airtight container.
- Your Narkel Naru is now ready to be enjoyed as a delightful sweet treat!
