- In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, a pinch of salt, and 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil.
- Gradually add warm water while kneading to make a soft and smooth dough. Start with about 1/2 cup of warm water and add more to achieve consistency. The dough should not be too sticky or too dry.
- Once the dough is well-kneaded, cover it with a damp cloth and let it rest for about 15-20 minutes. This resting period allows the dough to relax and become easier to work with.
- After resting, divide the dough into small, equal-sized balls, about the size of golf balls.
- Roll each dough ball between your palms to make a smooth, round ball, then flatten it slightly with your fingers.
- Place a non-stick pan or a cast-iron skillet over medium heat and add a few drops of vegetable oil to coat the pan.
- Roll out each dough ball into a small disc, about 4-5 inches in diameter, using a rolling pin and a little dry flour to prevent sticking.
- Place the rolled-out dough disc onto the preheated pan. Cook it for about 1-2 minutes on each side, or until it turns golden brown with slight brown spots. You can press down gently with a spatula while cooking to ensure even cooking.
- Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls, rolling and shallow frying each luchi individually. Add a few drops of oil to the pan as needed.
- Once done, place the healthy whole wheat luchis on a paper towel to remove any excess oil.
- Note - 1. Serve the healthy luchis with your favorite side dishes like vegetable curry, dal, or any other accompaniment of your choice.
- 2. These luchis are a nutritious alternative to traditional deep-fried luchis while still offering a delicious taste.
