- Cook Rice and Dal:
- Wash and soak rice and toor dal for 15-20 minutes.
- In a pressure cooker, add the soaked rice and dal, mixed vegetables, chopped tomato, turmeric powder, salt, and 3 cups of water.
- Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles until everything is soft and well cooked.
- Prepare Spice Paste:
- Heat 1 tsp oil in a pan and roast chana dal, urad dal, coriander seeds, fenugreek seeds, and dried red chilies until golden brown.
- Add grated coconut and roast for another 2 minutes.
- Grind the roasted ingredients into a fine paste with a little water.
- Combine and Cook:
- Open the pressure cooker and mash the cooked rice and dal mixture slightly.
- Add the prepared spice paste and tamarind pulp. Mix well.
- Cook on low heat for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add water if needed to get the desired consistency.
- Prepare Tempering:
- Heat ghee or oil in a small pan.
- Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
- Add cumin seeds, curry leaves, dried red chilies, and asafoetida. Sauté for a minute.
- Pour the tempering over the Bisi Bele Bath and mix well.
- Serve:
- Serve hot with a dollop of ghee, papad, and pickle.
