- This recipe will make 5-6 servings.
- In a big bowl, mix together grated coconut, jaggery, and chopped nuts. Stir well to make a sweet filling and set it aside.
- In another bowl, put whole wheat flour, ghee (a kind of butter), and a pinch of salt. Mix it all together with your fingers until it looks like breadcrumbs.
- Add a little water at a time and knead it until you have smooth dough. It shouldn't be too hard or too soft.
- Divide the dough into equal parts and roll each part into a small, flat circle using a rolling pin.
- Take one of these circles and put a spoonful of the sweet mixture in the middle.
- Fold the circle in half to make a half-moon shape, and press the edges together with a fork or your fingers to seal it.
- Repeat this for all the dough circles.
- Heat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
- Place the filled gujiyas on a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Bake them in the hot oven for around 18-20 minutes, or until they become golden brown.
- Take them out of the oven and let them cool down for a bit.
- To make them tastier, you can sprinkle some cardamom powder on top.
